Snorkeling Snorkeling in the pristine waters of the Channel Islands is an unforgettable experience, and the Tole Mour instructors are experts at guiding campers through their underwater adventures. Each camper will have the opportunity to learn basic snorkeling skills while exploring the selected area. It is important to note that campers do not have to be strong swimmers to enjoy this activity because the provided wetsuits work as flotation devices. With confidence and encouragement, even non-swimmers can have a great time snorkeling. All campers will be provided with the necessary gear to keep them warm and comfortable in the water. Full-length cold-water wetsuits, masks, snorkels, hoods, booties, and fins will be provided and instructors will demonstrate their proper use. During the snorkel, instructors will dive down and collect specimens to teach about while in the water or to bring back to the ship’s aquariums. Note: If campers have personal gear, please make sure that it is well marked. Surfing wetsuits are generally inadequate for the demands of snorkeling, unless they are at least 4mm cold-water suits. These may be worn for boogie boarding and other activities, however. For campers who wear glasses/contacts, we do have a small number of prescription masks. Contacts can be worn under masks, but glasses may not. SCUBA Diving During our 2 and 3-week programs in the summer, we offer campers the opportunity to dive from the TOLE MOUR under the supervision of our dive-master. In order to dive, campers must be adult “open water” or “basic” divers with current DAN insurance before their session starts. They must also pass a basic skills checkout with the dive-master. Our dive limits are 40’ for 40 minutes. There are no exceptions to these restrictions. The TOLE MOUR will provide tanks, weights, BCDs, and regulators to divers. Divers must provide their own mask, snorkel, fins, booties, and dive watch. Dive sites will be selected based on conditions and the ship’s voyage plan. Our dive-masters are all highly trained and registered through National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) as having met or exceeded the standards for their certification.
